One of my favorite recipes is my grandmother’s meat loaf. Oh, for a quick meat loaf I’ll just mix ground meat and some powdered soup mix. But when I have the extra ten minutes, I pull out Grandma’s recipe with all its stains and wrinkles and make it from scratch.
But I don’t make it just like Grandma did. Because she chopped and mixed everything by hand. She even made bread crumbs by hand. She either pulled fresh bread into crumbs with a fork or used a grater to crumb stale bread. But I think she’d understand that I like to use my Ninja Pulse Blender to do it all!
First I put the eggs, liquids, and seasonings into the large Pulse container and pulse a few times till the ingredients are well blended. Then I make bread crumbs in a 16-ounce container, add them to the mixture, and chop onions, garlic and other veggies separately in the same small container, adding each chopped ingredient to the large container too. A few pulses mixes them into the liquidy mixture.
Finally I add the ground meat and pulse that till well blended. Voila! Meat loaf ready to put in a pan and bake!
Now I’ve tried making bread crumbs in a regular old blender, and if the bread is fresh, I get a gooey glob of doughy stuff in the bottom of the blender. Even stale bread can make a clump before the rest of the bread is grated. And in a regular blender onions can quickly go from chopped to minced to pureed before I know it.
Mixing the ground meat with other ingredients in a regular blender? Forget about that!
But the Ninja Pulse does it all with finesse. And mmm does that meat loaf smell and taste delicious! Grandma would be proud.
